What is Acne?

Naturally, Our whole body, including our faces, is covered in tiny pores which secrete our natural oils, known as ‘sebum’. Sebum prevents our skin from drying out by lubricating it, however, in excess it can dramatically affect our skin’s appearance. Acne is a condition where hair follicles (pores) become trapped with oil and bacteria creating a sticky pus-filled mixture leading to the blockage of pores.

As these pores continue to be filled with excess oil, the area begins to swell, redden, and feel painful. In addition to feeling pain, most people who suffer from acne feel unattractive and insecure due to the unpleasant appearance on the skin. It may present as blackheads, whiteheads, oily skin, red pimples, or potential scarring on the surface of the skin.

Who Does It Affect The Most?

Although it can target anyone at any age, the most common is during adolescence. The onset of puberty triggers hormonal responses that can lead to an increase in oil production leading to acne. According to Statistics Canada more than 5.6 million Canadians are affected by acne. That’s nearly 20% of the population! Acne is not limited to the face, almost 50% of acne cases are considered body acne. You are definitely not alone!

Treating acne can be very frustrating as it can take trial and error of many treatments before finding the right approach for you. Lucky for you, Ivy Laser Clinic specializes in acne treatments to provide you with dramatic results.

We offer a customized plan for each client, using a combination of different lasers, skin treatments, and skin care products. For a fast and lasting solution to acne, we combine the Fotona system, along with our radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device as our next generation in improving your journey to clear skin!

The Fotona System

Our highly powered laser, safely penetrates into the skin at an optimal depth to effectively target and destroy overactive sebaceous (oil) glands. The heat effect of the laser treatment also provides long term reduction in acne inflammation by accelerating the healing process. By improving the healing process, you will find an improved appearance of active acne and acne scars over time as the laser vaporizes scarred tissue and stimulates the production of new collagen into the dermis.

Radiofrequency Microneedling (RF microneedling)

Radiofrequency microneedling is a noninvasive skin rejuvenating treatment that creates micro injuries while penetrating radiofrequency heat energy into the skin to enhance collagen-boosting effects. This technology improves the texture of your skin by shrinking pores, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, enhancing the laxity of the skin, as well as reducing acne scars and stretch marks.

We can also customize your treatment plan by adding on RF microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). In this procedure we would draw your blood from your arm, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and reinject it into your treated area, along with using it like a topical serum. By adding PRP to your treatment, you can maximize your results.

In addition to the Fotona laser and RF microneedling technology, we also provide the top of the line Alumier MD skincare line to advance your results! We also take into account your lifestyle habits and advise you on what to avoid or reduce to prevent future breakouts.
