WHAT IS THE METHOD OF TREATMENT?
At Ivy Laser Clinic we use two laser systems known as: the Fotona Dynamic Laser System and the Lightsheer XC machine. Both are FDA and Health Canada approved amongst the industry recognized as the “Gold Standard” laser machines.
These laser systems are designed by using a beam of highly concentrated light to remove unwanted hair. The laser administers heat per pulse to destroy the hair follicle and impede hair re-growth.
IS THIS TREATMENT EFFECTIVE?
Based on your hair and skin type would determine the success of hair reduction, as well as choosing the right medical esthetician. At Ivy Laser Clinic our technicians have over 15 years of laser hair removal experience.
Considering the amount of hair you start with pre-treatment, you will notice a significant reduction in unwanted hair, as well a thinner and lighter hair re-growth which becomes less noticeable than before.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
There are 4 phases in the hair growth cycle: the early growth, active growth, regression, and resting phases. At the active growth phase, the hair follicle has a higher blood supply and therefore, has a greater chance of being susceptible to treatment. At the resting phase, there is very little blood supply, and therefore those hair follicles will not respond to treatment.
Our lasers are capable of penetrating between 2-7mm into the skin to truly have a significant effect, depending on the body part being treated. The ideal candidate for laser hair removal would be fair skin with dark coarse hair. However, our advanced lasers allow us to treat darker skin types as it’s new technology is able to penetrate dark skin with lower light absorption and still penetrate the deep hair follicles needed to provide excellent results.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Every hair removal case is unique based on skin types, lifestyle, hormonal changes, and sun exposure. As hair grows in cycles, multiple treatments are needed in order to achieve optimal and permanent results. After each session, you can expect between 10-25% hair reduction, with hair regrowth being reduced and lighter. Our treatments are tailored to each client, hence the range of 7-12 treatments per body part is advised. The frequency of each session may also vary based on the treated area, whether that be 4-6 weeks apart, or 6-8 weeks apart.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Both female and male clients who are looking for reduction in facial and body hair are ideal candidates.
BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
- Freshly shave the entire area that is planned for laser hair removal within 24 hours
- Avoid exfoliating with any chemical peels, toners, creams one week prior to treatment
- Avoid wearing makeup, perfume, heavy lotions, creams, deodorants on day of treatment
- Use a broad spectrum SPF 30 or greater sunblock 2 weeks before
- Please do not tan in the sun or use an artificial tanning bed within 2 weeks of your treatment
DURING YOUR TREATMENT
- You may experience mild discomfort
- You may notice a smell of burnt hair which is normal
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
- You may notice the hair growth up to two weeks and will fall out on it’s own
- You may notice redness or swelling that is bump-like around the hair follicle with mild discomfort. You may use a cold pack to reduce the irritation
- Between treatments, do not pluck or wax the treated area, ONLY shave the area as needed
- Avoid hot saunas, hot tubs, working out, sports, or strenuous activities for 3 days to reduce irritation to the area
- Wait approximately 24-72hours prior to doing any chemical peels, or facials if laser treated the facial area
- No deodorant for 24 to 48 hours if underarm was treated
- If you notice a crust develop, apply aloe as needed to keep the area moist until healed
- Continue to use a broad spectrum SPF 30 or greater sunblock 2 weeks post treatment
SCHEDULING YOUR NEXT TREATMENT
- Please shave between sessions, as well as 24 hours prior to your next appointment
- Your next session is expected to take place every 4-6 weeks on facial areas, and 6-8 weeks for the body. Missing or skipping treatments is not recommended as it can lead to less optimal results and dissatisfaction.
- **Reminder** between treatments do not wax, tweeze, or use electrolysis. We encourage shaving only.
