About the Women’s Centre of York Region (WCYR)
For over four decades, WCYR has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for women across York Region. Originally founded in 1977 as J&J Women’s Counselling, the organization evolved over the years, gaining charitable status in 1981 and officially becoming the Women’s Centre of York Region in 1999.
Operating from a feminist, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist framework, WCYR focuses on investing in women to create ripple effects that benefit families and entire communities. The organization provides resources, support, and opportunities tailored to women’s unique journeys of self-discovery and empowerment, always using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.
